Clay Masks and Interview

Team 3 have been making clay masks. i have interviewed Julia H and Jane C from Room 8, one of the classes in Team 3.

What do you think about making the clay masks?

Jane: It's interesting because you can learn how to make them. You can learn from making mistakes.

Julia: I think that making the clay masks was fun! It's all squishy and it's very easy to mold into shape.

How do you make them?

Jane and Julia: First, you draw your mask on paper. Then you get some clay, pour some water on it and squish it into shape. You have to put water on it whenever it dries. Make sure you don't have any air bubbles, or when you fire it, they would explode. We use pencils or nails to make the facial details and expressions.

Is it easy or difficult? Why?

Jane: It's difficult because you keep on getting dirty hands, but somehow, it's easy at the same time!

Julia: I think it was difficult to make a clay mask without inspiration for the expression. My first thought was a coconut face with stripes!

Thank you for your time, Julia and Jane. Your clay masks sound like great fun!
