Mr Ward's interview

The 2010 Westburn School Daffodil Day fund raising event was an extremely successful event, raising over $1,000! Here's Mr Ward's opinion.

Mr Ward's interview:
How happy are you about this event?

Extremely happy and delighted by how willing our students were to give to this worthwhile event.

How happy are with this year's results compared to last year's?

Very pleased with the outcome. I think we as a school achieve great results almost every year, but I'm still very pleased with the final outcome of over one thousand dollars.

Was is a worthwhile event in your eyes?

Most definitely and I'd like to thank the student council for putting so much effort and time into this fantastic event.

Do you think giving all the money to the Cancer Society encourages the children to give more?

Personally, yes, but I guess that's a question you would have to ask the kids to get the real answer.

Are you considering doing the daffodil hunt again next year?

Maybe but I'm always open to new ideas.

Have you got any ideas for next year's Daffodil Day? If so please post a comment and tell us what you would like to have included. Remember, just leave your first name, what class you're in and, of course, your idea.

Car Creations for Upcoming Production

Interviewing Yoon Su and Jennifer.

Outlining the trunk of the car.

Unfinished 50's car traced and outlined by Helena, Jane, Jennifer and Yoon Su.

I have interviewed Yoon Su Kim and Jennifer Jiang, both from Room 8, about making the car props with others for the school's upcoming production.

What did you enjoy about making the cars?

Yoon Su: I liked the painting part of of it because it was very fun and fairly easy.

Jennifer: I think that painting was the best part too. I enjoyed it because I like art.

How did you make the cars?

Yoon Su & Jennifer: We kept a big piece of paper stuck onto the whiteboard with magnets, pulled the projector screen up, got the right picture of the car with the teacher's laptop and projected it onto the whiteboard. Then we traced the image of the car onto the paper and outlined it with Sharpie. Finally, we painted the car.

Is this easy or difficult?

Yoon Su: Sometimes it's easy. It actually depends on whether the car is detailed or not. It's also very difficult whenever somebody nudges the paper while tracing it and moves it in a different place. Then we end up trying to move the paper back into its original place.

Jennifer: It's very easy, even though sometimes everything went hectic and people got stressed out.

I hope they got made successfully! Thank you, Yoon Su and Jennifer.

Clay Masks and Interview

Team 3 have been making clay masks. i have interviewed Julia H and Jane C from Room 8, one of the classes in Team 3.

What do you think about making the clay masks?

Jane: It's interesting because you can learn how to make them. You can learn from making mistakes.

Julia: I think that making the clay masks was fun! It's all squishy and it's very easy to mold into shape.

How do you make them?

Jane and Julia: First, you draw your mask on paper. Then you get some clay, pour some water on it and squish it into shape. You have to put water on it whenever it dries. Make sure you don't have any air bubbles, or when you fire it, they would explode. We use pencils or nails to make the facial details and expressions.

Is it easy or difficult? Why?

Jane: It's difficult because you keep on getting dirty hands, but somehow, it's easy at the same time!

Julia: I think it was difficult to make a clay mask without inspiration for the expression. My first thought was a coconut face with stripes!

Thank you for your time, Julia and Jane. Your clay masks sound like great fun!
